Why this funding is needed: This project has regional significance because it will provide a continuous multi-lane corridor between the growing areas of Fayetteville and Raleigh.

Purpose: This project will rehabilitate the pavement and add existing lanes to this critical roadway.
Why this funding is needed: This project has national and regional significance because it is part of the National Highway System, Interstate System, and is part of North Carolina’s Strategic Highway Corridor.

Purpose: Funds for this project will be used for the construction and design of a multi-lane freeway on a new location from US 401 north of Fayetteville to Highway 210 in Cumberland County.
Why this funding is needed: This project will reduce congestion and improve access by providing a freeway that will connect the Fort Bragg Military Base with Interstate 95.

Request: $43,460,000
Proposed recipient: NCDOT Public Transportation Division, 1 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC, 27601
Purpose: This project proposes to widen the existing route to six lanes to accommodate the traffic anticipated when NC 24-87 is closed to civilian traffic.
Why this funding is needed: This project has regional significance as it would alleviate traffic congestion around Fayetteville and provide access when existing routes through Fort Bragg are closed for security reasons. It is identified as a route on the National Highway System, North Carolina’s Strategic Highway Corridor as well as the North Carolina Intrastate System.
Title: NC Highway 42 in Johnston County
Request: $21,600,000
Proposed recipient: NCDOT Public Transportation Division, 1 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC, 27601
Purpose: These funds would be used for improvements in construction, design, and acquiring right-of-way along NC 42 in Johnston County.
Why this funding is needed: This project has regional significance because it is a major artery that connects Interstate 40 and Interstate 95 in eastern North Carolina.
Title: Highway 401 in Wake and Franklin Counties

Purpose: These funds would be used as part of a project to widen Highway 401 between the Neuse River in Wake County and the city of Louisburg in Franklin County with a bypass of the town of Rolesville.
Why this funding is needed: This project will improve mobility by converting a two-lane facility into a multi-lane divided highway.
Title: North Carolina State University’s Center for Transportation and Environment (CTE) as a part of the University Transportation Center program.

Purpose: CTE is a national leader in educating university students and current transportation professionals from all over the U.S. to integrate environmental concerns into the design process of transportation projects.
Why this funding is needed: CTE also focuses on transportation research and development that improves our highway and transit designs using Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS).

Purpose: This project proposes to expand The City of Fayetteville’s traffic camera system.
Why this funding is needed: The requested project will aid in facilitating communications and traffic signal optimization for troop mobilization, I-95 incident management detours and hurricane evacuations.
Title: City of Sanford Pedestrian Safety and Access Improvements.
Request: $ 4,000,000
Proposed recipient: City of Sanford, Sanford, NC
Purpose: These funds would be used for planning, engineering, design, acquiring of right-of-way, and construction of streetscapes in and around downtown Sanford.
Why this funding is needed: This project will create a pedestrian friendly city to attract more revenue and jobs to the downtown area.
